RAMSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL

Understanding and Expressing Identity!
This mural was designed and painted as a two month artist residency from mid-October through the end of November 2008, with 180 sixth, seventh and eighth graders at Ramsey International Fine Arts Center in Minneapolis, MN. Following the theme, ÒUnderstanding and Expressing Identity,Ó Ramsey students, facilitated by muralist Greta McLain, participated in a series of conversations and brainstorming sessions to develop a mural design that would express both the challenges of recognizing and showing who we are as individuals and the power of creating a safe space for the celebration of everyoneÕs uniqueness. The resulting mural is a monumental reminder to make sure that ÒWe are sharing our gifts with the world,Ó making it a better place through the positive expression of each of our unique experiences, talents and abilities.
